From the perspective of a physical therapist: what can be done from now.
Learning through a narrative: “How will Mr./Ms. A live out their life?” — and beyond.
Building on the narrative series by Dr. Taku Yamada, this session invites Mr. van Zeeland, speaking from the perspective of a physical therapist, to explore how we can live our daily lives and care for our bodies when we look ahead—from life at home, to living in a care facility, and ultimately to the final chapter of life.
Through the case of “A-san,” we will reflect on more than simply striving for longevity. Rather, we will consider how to continue living in a way that is true to oneself—healthfully and comfortably—even as we age. What kinds of movement patterns should we choose, and what forms of exercise can we incorporate into our daily routines to support this way of living? Together, we will examine these questions as part of our shared exploration of “how to live each day in practice.”
In addition to well-being in older age, we will also highlight perspectives relevant to those in their 40s and 50s—focusing on how to cultivate a body that allows us to move through daily life with greater lightness, grace, and ease. Posture, breathing, circulation, resilience to fatigue, and ease of movement—by refining these elements, we not only prepare for the future but also discover habits that support beauty and health, helping us feel and look our best in the present.
Although this is a gathering centered on thinking about the future, it is equally an opportunity to encounter practical insights for living more authentically and with greater contentment starting today. We warmly welcome participation from those in midlife, those who care for elderly family members, and anyone wishing to approach their future with intention and positivity.
At the beginning of the lecture, we will also introduce the activities of the organizers, Nichiran Net and Furusato Huis.

A physical therapist, yoga instructor, and movement analyst. Drawing on expertise in both medical science and yoga, he is engaged in the practice and promotion of therapeutic exercise aimed at improving physical function, preventing disability, and supporting quality of life.
In Japan, he worked in the field of community-based rehabilitation through the Council of Social Welfare, gaining experience across a wide range of health and welfare settings, including health promotion, day services, day care, and preventive care programs.
He later relocated to the Netherlands, where he explores a holistic approach that encompasses perspectives on health, life and death, and ways of living—seeking to understand how to cultivate a body that enables individuals to live authentically until the very end of life.
Currently, he continues to provide instruction and educational outreach centered on breathing, posture, daily movement, and exercise habits, working with a broad spectrum of individuals—from children to older adults, and from Olympic athletes to those in the performing arts.
